Huge leap forward in revenues and engagement
The consumer simply points the phone camera at the screen and Stingr instantly brings up all the information and services associated with that moment in that particular programme. The show can be live, time-shifted or on demand; it can even be dubbed from another language. Stingr recognises the images regardless.
The Stingr functionality can be embedded in any app, so broadcasters, production companies and sports bodies can build the experiences and revenues around it to meet their own goals. That keeps the interactions and revenues under their direct control and viewers immersed in the programme, not going away to other apps.
“In this industry we use the word ‘transformational’ a lot, but this really does have the potential to make a huge difference,” said Alistair Horne, one of the founders of Stingr Tech and Hornets Tech. “When advertising revenues are in decline, this is a powerful way of stimulating sales directly, under the control of the broadcaster or the programme maker. It will bring about a completely fresh view of the television business model.”
The Stingr system incorporates the user app elements, the image database and the backend processing. New content can be added into the database within a couple of seconds, so live sports can be available to Stingr apps in the time it takes to encode and deliver the broadcast video.
Alongside Stingr, Hornets Tech will be demonstrating a new encoder/decoder and IP streaming software platform, for SMPTE ST2110 or HDMI signals. Hornets is best known for its imaginative and innovative solutions to RF camera challenges, and the MPTS stand will also see the latest in technology from Domo Broadcast to illustrate how real-world production problems can be solved.
Visit stand J28 at MPTS 2026 for a demonstration of the transformative Stingr technology, and you can try it yourself at stinger-tech.com. For more on RF cameras, streaming and connectivity, see hornets-tech.com.
